Do tattoos hurt?

Yes. Having needles pierce your skin hurts. The proper question is ‘How much does it hurt and can I handle it?’ It’s not nearly as bad as what you might imagine. This sensation doesn’t feel like the pain of an injection– it’s more of a constant vibration. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your body releases endorphins which dulls the pain significantly. The pain will vary depending where on your body you get tattooed. Skin right above bones tend to be more painful than other areas. In addition, certain types of needles seem to hurt more than others.

Do you offer piercing services?

No. We only offer tattoo services at ZINK Tattoo.

What type of payments do you accept?

We accept cash only at the shop (Hong Kong Dollars). For overseas clients, we accept Paypal deposit transfers.

How many hours will it take to complete my tattoo?

There are many factors that determine the hours it may take to finish a tattoo such as color, style, size, detail and your skin type. When you come in for a tattoo consultation, we will be able to give you an estimate of how many hours it may take to complete.

What are the preparations I should do before getting a tattoo?

Make sure you arrive well rested and not on an empty stomach. Wear comfortable clothes you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. If you are getting a tattoo on your arm, don’t wear long sleeves in which you cannot take off because it will get in the way of the artist. Try to avoid tanning at least 2 weeks before your appointment. The last thing you would want is to arrive at your appointment with sun burnt skin. Do not consume drugs/alcohol the day before your appointment or the day of because drugs affect your blood flow which means the tattooing process will take longer than it has to.

What are the tattoo aftercare instructions?

It will take about 3-4 weeks for your skin to completely heal after a tattoo. How the final tattoo looks will depend on how well you take care of your permanent artwork.

You can unwrap the plastic cover in 2-3 hours. Your skin will need to breathe, so it won’t be necessary to cover it up again. Keep the area clean and dry when possible. We suggest using cool water and a mild cleanser to gently wash the tattoo during shower. Carefully pat dry with paper towel or tissue after washing. Apply tattoo aftercare lotion with clean hands on your tattoo 4-6 times a day or whenever it feels dry and itchy. However, make sure you are only applying a thin layer each time, as you do not want to suffocate the tattoo with too much lotion. Continue use of the aftercare lotion to avoid cracking of the scabbing, which can cause color loss. Remember to wear clean clothes with soft fabric over the tattoo. You can use sunblock and body lotion when your tattoo is fully healed.

Direct sunlight, swimming, sauna, steam room, bathing and sweating should be avoided for the first 2 weeks or until all the scabbing has peeled naturally. We suggest avoid drinking alcohol for the first few days as to prevent further redness and swelling. Picking or scratching your tattoo during the healing process could result in color loss, so it is important to allow your skin to heal on its own.

Swelling, redness, dryness, itching, tenderness and raised areas are all minor symptoms that you may experience during the healing process of your tattoo. A tattoo will scab and peel like a normal wound. Cleanliness is key!

What should I inform my artist before getting a tattoo?

Do not get a tattoo if you have diabetes, epilepsy, hemophilia and if you are pregnant. If you have any medical conditions such as HIV or Hepatitis, you are obligated to inform the artist. You should also inform us of any allergies or conditions you may have.

How do you clean your instruments?

We undergo very strict sterilization standards here at ZINK Tattoo every day. All needles are brand new, single-use only and opened in front of the client. Workstations, tattoo beds, arm rests, spray bottles and anything that comes in contact with bodily fluids are covered with new barriers during each set up and is disposed of safely to eliminate cross-contamination. Reusable tattooing instruments are cleaned then sterilized in an autoclave to guarantee the safety of our clients. Work stations, furniture and equipment are cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant after each client. We cannot stress how important these safety measures are and this should be one of the first things you look for when choosing the right tattoo shop.

Can I bring friends with me?

Friends and family can wait outside in the seating area when you’re getting tattooed. If you must, please do not bring more than one friend as we have limited seating. Thank you!
